Project title:  Developing an Innovative Tool in Youth Work for Teen Parents

Project number: 2019-3-LT02-KA205-006638

Programme:  Erasmus + - strategic partnership for youth

Coordinator:  Asociacija MINTES BITES

Duration: 01.02.2020 – 31.01.2022

Description:

Educating about parenting is an important issue that can help your child grow up happy, healthy and well-adjusted.

Tool4Teen Erasmus + project partners from Lithuania, Ireland, Poland, Finland and Malta will jointly develop, implement and test innovative educational tools dedicated to youth workers to develop their daily competences to support teenage parents in their social inclusion path.

This approach will take the form of short comic strips whereby parents will be able to broaden their knowledge and develop positive parenting skills with the support of youth workers thanks to focusing on the inclusive approach.

The methodology aims to help youth workers in their role as organizers of non-formal learning and to enrich their methods of work.

Intellectual outputs results:

The result of the project will be a set of comics that will be adapted to the needs of the target group thanks to a clear message. The kit will be developed as a series of short stories that will enable young audiences to improve their positive parenting skills with the support of youth workers.

Each comic is a series of several drawings that are intended to illustrate one concept or issue. Thanks to this, the message will become clear and pleasant to read, and easy to disseminate using digital technology tools (e-mail, website or blog). The partnership will also develop a guide that will be a supporting tool for the content of the cartoon stories.

Impact of the project:

  • Improved access for teen parents, versatility and social integration through new innovative curricula, educational methods and development of training courses.
  • Improved understanding of youth worker’s priorities amd needs by different actors.
  • Better confidence among teen parents to use their individual strengths, abilities and qualities for their social integration.
  • Increased attitudes of responsibility, independence and resourcefulness among teen parents.
  • Empowered teen parents to use positive parenting methods.
  • Improved self-esteem of teen parents and empowered participation cultures in their integration pathway, thus overcoming prejudices and stereotypes
  • Internalisation of innovative practice.

Project target groups:

The target group of the project are teenage parents from different backgrounds, with different educational status, with slight learning difficulties, dropping out of school or leaving high school, socially disadvantaged, unemployed, socially excluded, and above all with social problems that may lead to difficulties in learning and parenting.

The direct beneficiaries of the project are professionals working with young people, including teenage parents, due to the lack of innovative, easy-to-read tools that would provide the target group with an efficient and high-quality service.
