Description:

Universities and higher education institutions must be recycled to adapt to the needs of their students and to the current social and employment situation. The information era and the new technologies have brought about a change in our brains, which, thanks to neuronal plasticity (the ability of the brain to adapt to new environments), today obey different stimuli.

Oral language from the pulpit in teaching is no longer enough. Image and interaction are vital to learning today, and teachers must know how to use them, as well as their non-verbal communication, gestures, behaviour. All these techniques have a high power over the unconscious brain in the educational field. So it is about getting to know ourselves better as teachers, getting to know our students better and working together to make European universities better and more powerful.

The objective of our project is to train higher education lecturers in an innovative didactic method, based on neuroscience, through an online platform in which a community of higher education lecturers is created to facilitate the development of transversal competences in the area of communication.

The didactic method based on neuroscience is a new innovative discipline of immediate application for teachers, based on the study of neurosciences, human communication and coaching to help them develop as leaders in the classroom. It is taught to process emotions with reason (neocortical brain) for their best professional skill in the management of personal skills. It helps to generate empathy with the students and have greater objectivity in the analysis of each, to guide them in the most accurate way.

Specific objectives of the project

1: conduct studies in all participating countries on Neuroscience applied to higher education and assemble them into a comprehensive study to identify training needs and directions for subsequent action.

2: exchange best practices in order to prepare itineraries adequate training skills development required by higher education lecturers in their teaching function.

3: develop an innovative training methodology, in order to train the target group of the project to increase the necessary didactic skills by Neuroscience.

4: organize a pilot training course where participants will learn to adapt and acquire teaching skills according to the neuroscientific Method.

5: create an online platform that will host the course "Didactic method based on Neuroscience" and a community of higher education lecturers.

Target group: The higher education lecturers who develop their work in institutions of superior education.

The pedagogical innovation consists in a didactic method based on neuroscience that covers the knowledge of:

  • The value of emotions in learning and the consolidation of memory.
  • Improved levels of attention.
  • The importance of games and digital platforms in learning.
  • Creativity and flexibility in teaching.

The innovative elements of digital learning materials and tools are:

  • Collaboration through digital technologies among higher education lecturers.
  • The creation of a virtual community on Neuroscience pedagogy applied to higher education.

Among expected and TANGIBLE results of the project are: five studies on Neuroscience applied to higher education, identification of training needs, good practice guide, innovative training methodology, pilot training course, online platform, multiplier events.
