The Competences4ESD project aims to contribute to the redefinition of teachers' core competencies under 4SDG - Quality Education for All and to add a new dimension to education for sustainable development through an innovative training model for core competencies. The project will enable teachers to overcome educational challenges when called upon to engage students and the school community in the discourse of sustainable development.
The goal of the project is
- to empower teachers and equip them with all the ESD key competencies needed to lead future generations, respond to global change, think critically, and systematically develop values and attitudes for a sustainable future.
- Gain an in-depth understanding of teachers' needs to develop key competencies that will contribute to sustainable development by 2030 (17 UN SDGs);
- Develop, pilot test and validate an ESD key competency training model for VET trainers to train teachers
- Support educational efforts in digital and creative training and learning to improve teachers' professional development in ESD key competencies. - Assign teachers a key role in shaping the sustainable development of students and the school community by promoting and stimulating action-oriented, effective learning.
The main outcome of the Competences4ESD project is the creation of an innovative model for training teachers in ESD core competencies under 4SDG - Quality Education for All. This training model will provide teachers with the competencies they need to effectively teach ESD in their school communities before and during school. The results of the project and the outcomes achieved during the project period are as follows:
- ESD Key Competencies Framework for Teachers, including:
- a synthesis report of related literature on ESD key competencies for teachers (desk research)
- a collection of ESD teacher key competencies contexts already developed at the national, European and/or international level (desk research),
- field research on teachers before and during work on the key competencies required for effective application of ESD
- Based on the data and information generated by the desk and field research, an ESD Key Competencies Program will be created. This will be the final product of the project on which subsequent projects will be based
- Competneces4ESD training and pilot course, R3:
- An educational role-playing board game that aims to develop ESD Key Competencies among teachers in a fun and motivating way, based on role-playing scenarios.
- An e-learning platform that will be an online tool for blended learning processes (face-to-face and virtual).
