MILEAGE - Handbook for Educators

« back

The MILEAGE project manual is a key tool for educators who want to effectively support seniors in learning and using new technologies. This document provides the information and instructions necessary to use the MILEAGE tools and implement an educational programme for the target group. It emphasises the importance of educators understanding the needs of seniors and using the proposed tools. It also provides guidance on dealing with the challenges faced by seniors and helping them overcome barriers and risks.

The handbook suggests ways to encourage younger seniors to support older seniors in the learning process, promotes opportunities for intergenerational learning and socialisation. Educators and seniors can draw inspiration from it to adapt their communication style and teaching methodology.

The document is divided into eight chapters. Chapter two outlines the key elements of the programme and the main skills and abilities that the programme aims to develop among seniors. Particular emphasis is placed on the competences that educators must possess in order to provide structured support to seniors. The third chapter informs on the principles of gerontology and the basics of senior psychology, presenting the elements of lifelong learning and promoting active learning among seniors.

The fourth chapter offers methods and techniques to support active ageing and motivate seniors to learn, including the integration of digital elements into their daily routine. The fifth chapter supports educators to adequately plan programmes for seniors by discussing tools and methods related to MILEAGE, with an emphasis on collaborative learning and peer support.

The sixth chapter provides advice for educators on how to adapt teaching styles to meet learner expectations, offering an overview of techniques useful in programme delivery. The seventh chapter illustrates digital scenarios and their use in developing digital skills. The eighth chapter focuses on microscience and introduces educational materials related to the scenarios, prepared by partners and educators implementing the first edition of the programme in different countries.
